Chinese search giant Baidu recently presented a new GPU-based Deep Speech deep learning system that has 94% accuracy when handling voice queries in Mandarin. Originally unveiled in December 2014, the speech recognition system was only able to recognize the English language.
Baidu senior research engineer Awni Hannun was interviewed by Medium to share why Mandarin is such a tough language to learn and why they train their deep neural networks on multi-GPUs.
